America’s Byways
America’s Byways ® invite exploration, adventure and, sometimes, quiet contemplation. Each of these 126 nationally designated routes possesses one or more of six intrinsic qualities: archaeological, cultural, historic, natural, recreational and scenic.
National Scenic Byways showcase unforgettable places, typically with regional appeal. All-American Roads reflect uniquely American sights and experiences, and present some of the finest driving routes in our country. In the nomination process, All-American Roads must meet a longer list of requirements than National Scenic Byways do to earn the special recognition from the U.S. Secretary of Transportation.
The Federal Highway Administration’s National Scenic Byways Program markets the America’s Byways collection of distinct and diverse roads, which may include routes that have also received other State and Federal-agency designations.
