Nomination Information For Possible Designation As A National Scenic Byway Or All-American Road
Under the National Scenic Byways Program, the U.S. Secretary of Transportation recognizes roads for their outstanding qualities by designating them as National Scenic Byways or All-American Roads. They are promoted collectively as America’s Byways®; see the Federal Highway Administration’s website for traveler information at http://www.byways.org/.
The Federal Highway Administration periodically solicits nominations. Information on the designation criteria, the nomination process, and the benefits and responsibilities of designation are available on FHWA’s website for the National Scenic Byways Program at http://www.bywaysonline.org/. FHWA staff can help answer specific nomination questions.
America’s Byways Resource Center serves as a “library” for byway groups working towards national designation and sustaining their byway. We provide information, training and networking opportunities related to topics covered in the nomination application, such as organizational development, corridor management planning and working with stakeholders.
