The President has made livable communities a key component of his domestic agenda and has challenged all Federal agencies to coordinate and innovate around this goal in an unprecedented way. .. DOT has formed an interagency partnership with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to promote livability. Integrating transportation planning with community and economic development planning can increase access to jobs, health and social services, entertainment, educational opportunities, and other activities of daily life, while also improving mobility within and among these communities. Sustainability, livability and quality of life is part of the topic of conversation at FHWA. .. We enhance our quality of life when we respect our history, culture and natural treasures. .. It’s also good business. Byways create entrepreneurs and jobs for residents by bringing more tourists to a community. .. Byways can provide an excellent example for enhancing quality of life and creating more opportunity in byway communities. DOT SEAL-BLUE 286 NSBP Livability Administrative Criterion: what are we looking for? .. From the FY 2010 NSBP Grant Information: The U. S. Department of Transportation has made livable communities a high priority. Livable communities improve the quality of life in urban, suburban, and rural communities by promoting principles and projects that integrate land use, transportation, housing, and conservation of open green space and natural resources. In support of these larger efforts, FHWA will give priority to eligible projects that can demonstrate a value-added livability component in addition to its relationship to the byway and the byway traveler.
